TIPS FOR A HEALTHY FOOD IN QUARANTINE

The Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) calls on the population to strengthen their immune system through healthy and conscious eating, in search of avoiding food waste.

FAO RECOMMENDATIONS TO MITIGATE THE EFFECTS OF PANDEMIC ON FOOD SECURITY AND NUTRITION.

 

  1. Strengthens your immune system through food

Increase your consumption of fruits and vegetables, with less than five servings a day. Vegetables and fruits contain a lot of vitamins A and C, they are also antioxidants, therefore, they help you fight possible infections.

Also, consume legumes at least three times a week. Legumes are preserved for a long time, are inexpensive and help you keep healthy, because they are high in protein and iron.

 

  1. Don’t just buy non-perishable food

Instead of buying pasta and rice, buy fruits, vegetables, and legumes.

If you buy extra vegetables and legumes, you can clean, cut, and freeze them. In this way, the lists of lists for your next preparation.

Choose vegetables and fruits instead of cookies, snacks, and pastries.

 

  1. Plan your purchase. Try to buy what is necessary and fair.

This is not only an act of empathy with other consumers who must also be supplied, but they help you avoid food waste and improve the economy of your home.

If you overcook, freeze your meals to last longer to avoid waste. This will help you have a meal prepared for another occasion, without much effort.

Drink at least two liters of water a day to stay hydrated and support your immune system.

If your budget is limited, we recommend preferring water to soft drinks.
